I was just listening to some background music via the FUSE cable channel. Shocking that music videos still exist on television, but still pleasant none the less. One of my favorite recent tunes came on. It’s a little ditty called “Ho Hey” by the Lumineers. (Video is below.)
“I belong with you, you belong with me, you’re my sweetheart…”
Who wouldn’t melt to the those lyrics on the guitar? Just a guy singing about the love that he wants out of life, even if it’s not the brightest hour just yet.
This song strikes a different chord in me though. I Googled the lyrics and really listened to the song. It’s quite sad in the beginning, but it’s the hope that gets me right at my heart. So much so, I thought of the music at my own wedding.
My husband and I took an entire year to carefully choose each song that would be played at our wedding. Crazy? Perhaps. But, we both loved music before each other and it carried such an influence in both our lives.
Music also played such a vital role in the beginning of our relationship. We lived across the country from each other. Two different worlds. Each of us trying to include the other in our daily lives.
Then one day, my darling sends me a text saying “This is a song of the day for you.” It was a Sade’s “Soldier of Love.” That’s when it happened. I knew I was in trouble and we were heading towards forever. Because any guy that can be this cheese-a-licious was the guy for me.
We sent each other songs instead of texts saying “I miss you” or “Wish you were here.” When we couldn’t find our own words, we found them in lyrics. We were making our own love soundtrack.
From big hair 80s rock anthems, to slow and sexy purchase phentermine canada love songs to just a happy tune. Anything we heard that reminded us of each other was sent immediately via text.
Music is so important on your wedding day. You want your guests to have a great time, but also have songs that you love to listen to. So, my husband and I made a list of all of our songs. Just about all of the music played on our wedding day were our personal Songs of the Day.
Only my husband and I knew this little detail. It made us smile all day. Each song played reminded us of a different part of our relationship. It made everything so much more magical that day. (You know, like when you have your mp3 player going and it’s so loud that you think you’re life is movie.) We lived every lyric and now it was playing on the best day of our lives. Talk about a video moment!
Which brings me back to the Lumineers. This song speaks of the time before meeting the love of your life. A hope. A dream. A wish. Or, perhaps, a little shaky start, but with the hope of a beautiful ending. When looking into your playlist for your wedding, take a step back and think of the entire spectrum of your relationship. How can the music of your love shape your wedding sound?
You may just end up with an amazing track list that will have your guests dancing and in awe of your choices all night. If you’re looking to do something different, why not look for different versions of your favorites. There are many talented artists that will remake a rap song into a classic string quartet (Hello, cocktail hour!). Or, perhaps a rock song going unplugged (dinner music!).
Just be sure to save the Sade for the honeymoon.
